Welcome to owensboro family wellness- two practices integrated to educate, empower, and achieve wellness

Our medical system is broken. As a patient, it is common to feel like just a number, and you don’t feel you can get the quality of care or the time you deserve. It’s hard to ask your questions when someone is limited to 5 minutes with you, and is facing a computer the whole time. You often question if the provider really understands what your symptoms are, what you’re going through, or any of the issues you face. They didn’t ask what you wanted to do, or go into why their “recommendation” was important. You were told what to do, and sometimes, you can be fired as a patient for not following every order they gave you. You might have been told that there is no alternative and no other options. The last time you asked about a supplement or vitamin, you were told they all cause drug interactions, and if they worked, they would be FDA approved. You may have been told to “lose weight”, or “decrease your salt intake”, but no one explained how or more importantly why. Or you have been trying to “treat” your illness by taking a medication with a book of side effects, that can be “managed” by taking more medications. You truly don’t know what to do, and you are more confused and discouraged now than ever. You have been searching the internet day and night for an alternative, and every friend or relative has a suggestion. You don’t know what works, what’s safe, and what is worth spending your money and time on. You just want someone you can trust, someone who can have a conversation with you, and you want to fix the root cause of whatever got you here.

we’ve been there too. you are not alone. we’re here for you.

We’re owensboro family wellness, and we serve patients and clients like you to educate, empower, listen, and offer guidance and planning to achieve wellness.

So wait- are y’all doctors? Yes and No. We have a family medical practice that serves babies to centenarians (102 is our oldest to date). Danny Mills, APRN, is the Nurse Practitioner who sees patients using Functional Medicine. He has a diverse background in nursing and has practiced in nursing homes, emergency rooms, cardiac care units, as well as family practice. On top of being highly educated and skilled, he is also a compassionate human with an empathetic heart. He has a passion for helping people heal, and live their best lives. If you want to place your health and wellness in the hands of someone that you can build a lifelong relationship with, that sees and respects you for the person you are, who loves everyone and judges no one, and can be a trusted ally on your journey of health- this is the right person.

The doctor- is Dr. Jesica Mills, PharmD, ND, MBA, RPh, BCES, BCLS, BCNP (that’s a lot of letters). She holds 2 Doctorate degrees, neither of them are in medicine. I’m going to repeat that a little louder for y’all in the back- SHE DOES NOT PRACTICE MEDICINE- in the traditional, allopathic, western sense of the word. Her degrees are in pharmacy (she is a practicing Pharmacist), and a Doctorate in Naturopathy, as well as having an MBA in Business, and has 3 board certifications in Endocannabinoids, Lyme Disease, and as a Naturopath. I know- what’s that? Naturopathy is a health system that believes our bodies were created with an amazing immune system and certain mechanisms that allow for healing to occur. The trick is to identify the root causes, and support the body and body systems to help the body heal itself. She does this through a number of super cool tests, and some very expensive and fancy machines. If you have been wanting to go to a highly educated health care professional who knows all about your prescription medicines and your vitamins, herbs, supplements to answer any question you have- you found her. She has clients with varying issues- and has supported her clients through “terminal” cancer, infertility, focus issues, behavioral problems, tick-borne infections, emotional trauma, autoimmune conditions, and more. She takes a functional and holistic approach to each patient- and she addresses and supports the body, mind, and spirit, and is trained in Mind-Body Integration. If you have a complicated health condition, have been given an expiration date, have been told there are no more options, or if you just want to prevent any serious health issues in the future by supporting the body now- book a consult and bring all of your questions.

What we’re about- education. empowerment. choice. wellness. prevention. root causes.

At Owensboro Family Wellness- we don’t want to give you a band-aid for your symptoms- we want to address the root cause and help educate you and empower you to take control of your health and your body. We seek to educate by understanding the patient’s needs and wishes, helping to overcome any obstacles, respecting each patient, and being earnest and practicing with integrity.

We do not believe in forcing patients to undergo medical interventions that conflict with their beliefs, religion, or wishes. We believe in weighing the risks versus the benefits of doing or not doing an intervention. We will have an honest discussion with you, with a goal of education- rather than a goal of compliance. You should not have to worry about you or your family member going without medical care for having a different approach to wellness.
